My work incorporates various mediums, including drawing, painting, textiles, soft sculpture, and animation. I use these mediums to explore the untold stories behind objects that interest me, focusing on textiles and garments. Through my art, I aim to address the systemic violence prevalent in our society and provide the community with healing tools.
Textiles are versatile for applying my images and transforming them into collages, sculptures, installations, costumes, or animations. Textiles play a significant role in my work, reflecting politics, power dynamics, the economy, culture, and society. They are essential to my creative process as they are deeply connected to women’s history and domestic life. Textiles serve as a metaphor for my artwork, representing the interweaving of ideas, similar to the way threads interweave to create fabric. They are humble yet versatile, capable of undergoing myriad transformations. A single piece of cloth can be a wall-hanging, a painting, a garment, or a sculpture, among many other possibilities. Their ease of manipulation, omnipresence in our daily lives, and ever-changing nature make them a fascinating subject of exploration.
My artwork explores various other subjects in addition to textiles. For example, I often focus on creating patterns, a form of meditation through repetition. I am particularly interested in studying the well-being of the brain and the activities that promote it, such as meditation, art, nature, community gatherings, and dance.
My art practice unconsciously gravitates towards finding ways to counteract the overwhelming stimulus and propagation of fears in our daily lives. Through art and artistic research, I am exploring ways to cope with anxiety by investigating the relationship between the brain, dance, repetition, and their impact on community well-being. My art practice is multifaceted and intertwines with various subjects like a weft. I aim to provide tools to help our community heal historical wounds and systemic violence we face daily. My art practice invites people to contemplate, dance, move, and celebrate together in the community.
