Bio

Juliana Silva was born in Colombia. She is a visual artist, art educator, and researcher. She received her Master of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University of Art & Design and Bachelor of Fine Arts from The National University of Colombia, and participated in an academic exchange at Concordia University in Montreal. Silva was the recipient of The Andrea Brussa Master Artist Endowment  Award from The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in 2019 and attended The Creative Gesture: Designing for Dance residency.  She received in 2018 an artist grant from the Colombian Ministry of Culture to develop her latest art project. In 2016 she attended a Visual Arts Residency at Banff Centre. She participated in the 16th Biennial Symposium of The Textile Society of America held in Vancouver in September of 2018 presenting a research that explores material culture through her practice and a sociological perspective.  

She exhibits her work since 2002 both in Colombia and in Canada. Silva works with sculpture, installation, photography, painting, and animation. Throughout her exploration of multimedia, Silva investigates ways in which meaning is conveyed through objects, materiality, and their cultural and political histories.
