Transforming matter is a key theme in my work. The exploration of different materials and disciplines drives my practice, and I am captivated by each material’s endless possibilities. I create with a variety of mediums, including drawing, painting, textiles, soft sculpture, animation, and installation. Through these forms, I delve into the untold stories behind objects that fascinate me, especially textiles and ornaments from my home country of Colombia. I aim to address subtle yet impactful societal themes, such as the systemic violence we all face, and create an aesthetic experience that provides the community with tools for healing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Textiles are versatile for overlaying images and transforming them into collages, sculptures, installations, costumes, or animations. They play a significant role in my work, reflecting politics, power dynamics, the economy, culture, and society. Textiles are also essential to my creative process as they are deeply connected to women’s history and domestic life. In my work, textiles serve as a metaphor for the interweaving of ideas, much like the way threads weave together to form fabric. They are humble yet versatile, capable of undergoing myriad transformations\u2014from garments to wall hangings to paintings to sculpture. Their omnipresence and ever-changing nature make them a fascinating subject of exploration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I also focus on creating patterns as a form of meditation through repetition. Recently, I’ve been studying the well-being of the brain and the activities that support it, such as meditation, art, nature, community gatherings, and dance. My art practice is gravitating towards a deeper understanding of the potential of these methods to counteract the overwhelming stimuli and propagation of fear in our daily lives. Through art and artistic research, I explore ways to cope with anxiety by investigating the relationship between the brain, dance, repetition, and their impact on our well-being. My practice is ever-evolving and multifaceted, intertwining with various mediums to invite people to contemplate, touch, move, celebrate, and heal together as a community.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
